We all need to be way more concerned about our mental health. It is just as or even more important than physical health yet it’s often over looked. Many people carry large amount of stress on a daily basis. But how many of us are finding outlets to release that stress? I wanted to do this page to bring a little more awareness to this issue. I’ve been in therapy for a little over a year now and it has been such a positive influence in my life. It truly has helped me figure out how to deal with life and create a plan for my future.

THERAPY
I believe we could all benefit from counseling/ therapy. There is something great that happens from talking to a professional that has an outside perspective and no bias. I’m aware that not everyone has insurance or access to professional help but if you do, think about utilizing it. There are places that offer sliding scale counseling based on your income. If you have Medi-Cal, they offer many choices for metal health in our area. Talk to your primary care provider if you are interested in more details on where to get started. I also suggest to do some “therapist shopping”. Its very important to find a counselor that you feel comfortable with and that can take going through a few before you find the right match for you. We all communicate differently and have different needs so don’t feel bad trying a few out before you chose.
In my experience not all part of therapy are easy and fun. It is meant to challenge you, and can dig up some deep emotions that can be painful. But I do believe the outcome it worth it. It can be quite a commitment. Expect to dedicate an hour a week to meeting with your therapist. Just remember, its a p r o c e s s.
